Hi everyone! I’m Alexis, a graduate research assistant at Emporia State University pursuing my M.S. in Biology. I graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S. in Marine Sciences and have experience in sea turtle conservation, marine mammal research, science communication, and environmental education.
My passion lies in sea turtle conservation, and I’ve completed two sea turtle seasons so far. My first was in Florida, where I’m originally from, working as a nighttime tagger for Mote Marine Laboratory. This past summer, I worked with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources as a sea turtle technician for Tom Yawkey Wildlife Center.
My research at ESU will focus on sea turtle ecology, specifically Green and Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles in the western Gulf of Mexico in collaboration with Sea Turtle Inc. in Texas. I’m excited and grateful to continue pursuing my passion for sea turtle conservation and research here at ESU!
